Famous Graves #9: The Royal Vault

On September 8th, Great Britain's Queen Elizabeth II passed away. As news spread of her death, the world seemed to come to a stand still, as if in an obligatory, collective moment of silence.

The seemingly never-ending lines passing by her coffin, which was ever so still, high, and regal - as the Queen surely was throughout her own life - were as humbling as they were breath-taking to watch, even on TV. Eager Brits and foreigners alike waited patiently for a quick turn to witness and pay respects to the late monarch - who took almost 100 years of history with her - as a personal homage and as an experience to reiterate to the next generation... the youngest of whom will likely only remember a King Charles III.

Windsor Castle

Following the elegant, mournful, week-long funeral ceremonies, Queen Elizabeth was buried by her late husband, Prince Philip, and close to other late members of the royal family. They lie at Windsor, within the King George VI Memorial Chapel, within the Royal Vault.
